Staying Compliant with the Virginia's Cannabis Control Authority
Getting to know regulations in Virginia
Virginia made history in April 2021 by becoming the inaugural state in the South to initiate the legalization of adult-use cannabis. Governor Ralph Northam's endorsement of a legalization bill paved the way for this significant development. The newly enacted law places emphasis on social equity, public health, and public safety.
It outlines a comprehensive three-year plan to legalize cannabis and establish a regulatory structure for its sale. The implementation of these transformative measures commences on July 1, 2021. This milestone includes the establishment of a state authority responsible for regulating the industry, as well as the legalization of simple possession and home cultivation for individuals aged 21 and above.
