The New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act (CUMMA), overseen by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC), was enacted on January 18, 2010. This legislation permits eligible patients in New Jersey to lawfully utilize medical marijuana.
Qualified patients can obtain authorization from a healthcare professional to procure a maximum of 84 grams or its equivalent within a 30-day timeframe. These orders must be fulfilled at an Alternative Treatment Center (ATC) or a licensed dispensary situated within the state of New Jersey.
On February 22, 2021, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Enforcement Assistance and Marketplace Modernization Act (CREAMM Act) was sanctioned, and it was officially adopted on August 12. This act decriminalizes the possession of 28.35 grams or 1 ounce of usable cannabis for individuals aged 21 and above, thereby legalizing recreational marijuana.
