Staying Compliant with Florida Department of Health Office of Medical Marijuana Use

Getting to know regulations in Florida

In 2014, the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act was enacted in Florida, granting individuals suffering from cancer or epilepsy the right to utilize low-THC cannabis for medicinal purposes. To oversee the implementation of the state's medical cannabis program, the Florida Department of Health established the Office of Compassionate Use (OCU).

However, it wasn't until 2016, when Amendment 2 was approved, that medical cannabis became fully legalized in Florida. Amendment 2 not only expanded the range of qualifying conditions but also allowed for a more comprehensive legalization approach.

Concurrently, the OCU underwent a transition and transformed into the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU), which was established by the state Department of Health. The OMMU assumes the responsibility of regulating Florida's medical cannabis program.
