Staying Compliant with the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission
Getting to know regulations in Alabama
Alabama legalized medical cannabis with the passage of Bill SB46 in 2021. Since then, more than 60 cities and counties throughout the state have passed ordinances allowing for the sale of medical cannabis.
The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission was established in 2021 to implement and manage the state's medical cannabis program's laws.
The AMCC began to review applications for cultivator, processors and dispensaries with other stakeholders in the cannabis industry, including the University of South Alabama which is currently working with the commission to review those applications.
In June, 2023, Alabama's new medical cannabis industry began issuing licenses. Like many other states, Alabama requires to implement and remain compliant with track and trace compliance requirements for this new state-wide program.
